France, 2011. I booked a small car and was given instead a C4.
No, not a plastic American two seater. A steel French seven seater, specifically a Citroën C4 Grand Picasso with 2.0 diesel and automatic box. It was quite upmarket and pleasingly for connoisseurs of Citroën history it had steering headlights like the SM and later DSs. You don’t appreciate this on winding country roads in rural Normady until you get home and find yourself without. Also sat nav which spent so much time routing and rerouting me around traffic that it added hours to my journey time.
Better, being a Citroën it had an umlaut. More cars should have one.
